Water for Nature
Help us provide a precious gift of water

The River Murray wetlands of South Australia need your help!

Vast areas of River Red Gum and Black Box woodlands, lignum swamps and samphire floodplains provide habitat for many species of threatened and vulnerable birds, fish, frogs and invertebrates.

Healthy wetland environments improve water quality for human consumption and agricultural use, are culturally important, and provide opportunities for tourism and recreation. Wetlands need regular watering to remain healthy.

Water for Nature is an initiative of Nature Foundation SA, South Australia's oldest and most successful wildlife and environment charity. We are a non-political, not-for-profit and mainly voluntary organisation.

The Water for Nature program distributes water, purchased or donated, to community supported watering projects along the River Murray.

*NEWS*

With the flooding rains of 2010-11, the environment has been given a real boost. Thousands of seedlings are popping their heads up, ready to replace trees that died or became seriously stressed during the drought. Native fish and water birds are flourishing in creek beds and floodplains that have been dry for over ten years. We need to sustain this regeneration by ensuring a plentiful supply of water to wetlands in the coming years.
